The Homeschool Option
The Units found on sciencepowerpoint.com can also be used as a great Homeschool Science Curriculum.  Each of
the 18 units can take up to several months to complete.  Homeschool students would follow the Powerpoint
Slideshow for each unit recording red slide notes into their science journal.  They would also complete lab activities
at home.  Most of the lab activities found on the Powerpoint slideshow can be completed using basic materials
found in your home.  I have found creative ways to use everyday materials to conduct meaningful and useful
laboratory investigations.  Examples include building ramps out of  cardboard and rolling different sized batteries
that hit a cup full of washers to demonstrate Laws of Motion, or using sand and sheets of paper to demonstrate
plate movement and mountain formation.   My science classes have been scheduled for 50 minutes so I have had
to create laboratory investigations that are meaningful, done quickly, and on a shoe-string budget.  Only a few
activities require microscopes and materials usually found in a science lab.  In those circumstances, you can
purchase those materials on your own, read about the findings on the next slides, or conduct additional research
about the topic.  The Powerpoint Slideshow will guide you through all of the different Areas of Focus within a Unit.

Please visit the Units by clicking the links above and playing the videos.  Also view the OFE's and Class Notes to
see all of the Areas of Focus in a Unit.  These Powerpoint slideshows really bring the topic you are studying to life.
Each Unit also comes with Jeopardy review games, usually at the halfway point, and at the end of the unit.  The
slideshow will also alert the viewer to a number of different videos that relate to the unit.  Just minimize out of
Powerpoint and click the video folder to choose the correct video.  The videos are titled so they can be found
easily.  Between the red note taking slides, the black activity questions, videos, lab activities, and Jeopardy review
games, you will be able to demonstrate your understanding on the OFE for that Unit.  Read the next paragraph for
grading and answers keys.  (OFE = Opportunity For Excellence / Home Exam) See Sample OFE's for each unit by
clicking the .pdf files under the video sample.  Be patient during loading because they are large files.
Grading and Parent Involvement
When purchasing, please let me know that this is part of a homeschool curriculum and I will mail multiple cd's.
One cd will be the students, while one cd will be the parents.  The two will be identical, except the parents cd will
contain the answer keys for the OFE's, Jeopardy games, and also include a copy of the class notes.  The copy of
the class notes should resemble the students notes in their science journal after they complete the lab activities
and record red slide notes.  OFE's can be printed out at home, or done electronically on the computer.  These
assessments could then be used as part of an electronic portfolio of the students learning.  These OFE's can also
be passed out at the beginning of the Unit for the student to complete as they go, or at the end of the unit where
the student can no longer use the Powerpoint Slideshow and then relies on their own notes from their science
journal.  Each Unit contains one OFE, and one modified OFE that is geared toward a student who may require a
less difficult OFE.  The parent can grade the Jeopardy Games by viewing the Answer Keys to the Jeopardy
Powerpoint with the student to see where errors occurred, and can use the Answer Key to grade the students
OFE or modified OFE.  Students and parents will both benefit from going through the Powerpoint slideshow
together, answering questions, completing challenges, conducting labs, and discussing questions.  The entire unit
run itself, and you can go at your own speed.  The large unit is broken into many smaller areas of focus.  Each
Unit is an exciting journey through a specific branch of science.

Special Deals For The Homeschooling Option.
If you are unsure about purchasing and would like to sample a unit first, then please contact
ryemurf@gmail.com.  I will gladly send you a portion of the unit you want to sample free of charge.  If you are
pleased with the results and want the rest, then please revisit this website and go through the check out
process.   If you are interested in purchasing all 18 units (4 years of curriculum) please contact me at
ryemurf@gmail.com so we can arrange a discounted price.

If participating in the entire 18 Unit Curriuclum, a 12 Page COMICOFE which is a door size poster when taped
together that contains small sketches from every unit will be included.  Students can go through their science
journal and record text next to the sketches.  The final product after coloring is a really cool door sized poster
of everything they have learned in science over the years.  I use the COMICOFE as the final exam at the end of
each year.  It is fun to do, gets the student reviewing material throughout the year, and once up on a wall,
becomes a colorful handmade poster that keeps teaching for years to come.

to important aspects of the image.
Red Slides should be recorded in
the students science journal.

Invertebrate.  Students use their
notes to assist them through the quiz.
After learning parts of the flower
in the form of a step by step
visual, students practice their
skills in an activity.  Each slide
highlights a new task.
Here students have just learned
measuring skills and are practicing
on a dollar bill.  The answers are
then provided so the student can
gauge their understanding.
In this activity, students will try and guess the hidden item as slides are
removed.  The object is something that we have just learned.  Students
have just learned the binomial system of classification focusing on a
Mountain Lion /
Felis Concolor which will be unveiled as the shapes are
slowly removed with every click.
